The School Day
Arriving at school
Every school day at Gleadless starts with a warm welcome from a member of our team at the school gate.
Our school gates open at 8:30am each morning.
Most children and families enter the school site through our Jaunty Lane or Hollinsend Road gates. These gates close at 8:50am.
As they arrive, children free-flow into the school building, supervised by adults along their route. Every child is greeted several times before they reach their classroom, setting a tone of belonging and respect for each individual and getting the day off to a positive start.
Children who arrive late to school should be brought to the school office via the Frith Road entrance by an adult and signed in there.
Playtimes and Dinner time
All year groups (Y1 - Y6) have a morning playtime for 15 minutes.
Each year group has a slightly different start for dinner time and children eat in the dining room or the main hall. Children can choose from a range of hot and cold food menu options. Some families choose to send children with a packed lunch instead.
Year groups play separately after eating and they are supervised by adults who know them well from our teaching assistant and midday supervisor teams. Sport and games equipment are available to each year group and staff are trained to support positive playtimes.
Children in the infant classes also have an afternoon playtime each day.
Leaving the school site
At the end of the school day, children are brought out to the upper playground by their teacher. We have a staggered end of the day so the playground does not become overcrowded and so children can be safely returned to their families. This is also a good opportunity for families to speak with the class teacher if needed.
