Performing Arts
Our Core Offer
At Gleadless, we feel strongly that a child's education should give them the opportunity to grow into well-rounded individuals whose wider skills and talents are recognised and developed. Our core values 'We Have a Voice' and 'We Have Self Belief' sit at the heart of this. We endeavour to give our children opportunities which build their confidence and support them to become clear and confident communicators. As part of this, we have developed a 'performing arts' offer for children, which includes:
- Every child will perform a 'class assembly' to their families each year, which showcases their learning and practises key performance and communication skills
- Every child will take part in a musical/dramatic performance each year:
EYFS and KS1 children put on a Christmas performance
Children in Years 3 and 4 perform in an Easter concert
Children in Year 5 perform in a Christmas Carol concert
Children in Year 6 perform in a Summer show, including singing, dancing and acting
- All children in KS1 and KS2 take part in a weekly singing assembly
- All children in Year 3 learn to play a musical instrument
- Access to extra-curricular lunch time and after school clubs such as dance, musical theatre and drama club
Our Enhanced Offer
We also work with a wide range of external partners to give our children additional opportunities throughout the school year. In recent years, these have included:
- A drama project with 'Grimm & Co' for children in Year 4, who participated in a six-week long drama residency at our school and which culminated in a dramatic performance which the children had co-created
- 'Music in the Round' for children in Year 1, who performed at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre
- 'Concerteenies' - a musical storytelling performance for children in EYFS
- 'One Voice' for children in Year 5, who performed a suite of songs at the Sheffield Octagon Centre in collaboration with the Sheffield Music Hub
